A future-proofed family home
This young, active family love their local area and came to Nest to help reimagine their home for long-term living, without the need to relocate.
Key to the brief for Sunrise House was creating a lifestyle-focused outdoor area. With clear sightlines from the kitchen and living space, the focus was for shed and pool design to be both functional and beautiful. Budget considerations challenged us to get creative, resulting in smart, cost-effective solutions that didn’t compromise on aesthetics. A shed large enough to accommodate their outdoor sporting equipment was important and the timber batten cladding with hidden shed access became a striking feature and a backdrop to the pool.
A second bathroom was also a priority, and limitations of a narrow side path shaped an ensuite extension. The design was brought inboard from the original external wall, extending the full length of the bedroom to maximise the ensuite footprint. With maintaining a connection to the outdoors and fresh air important to our clients, a large operable skylight became the perfect solution for natural lighting — and is now a standout feature of the primary bedroom. Custom joinery throughout was integrated into the home’s coastal style and has significantly increased storage capacity. This included study joinery in the living space which will become a perfect homework nook as the children grow.
Midway through construction, the scope was extended to include the front garden, gates and low stone fence— this allowed us to create a cohesive design front and back, while elevating the home’s street presence. Enclosing the front yard, created an alternate outdoor space for the family to enjoy their home and feel connected to their community.
A collaborative journey with a beautiful family, this project shows how thoughtful design can future-proof a home and enrich everyday living.
