This young, active family love their local area and came to Nest to help reimagine their home for long-term living – without needing to relocate.

Key to the brief for Sunrise House was creating a lifestyle-focused outdoor area. Clear sightlines from the kitchen and living space were important. The shed and pool design needed to be both functional and beautiful. Budget considerations challenged us to get creative. The result was smart, cost-effective solutions that didn’t compromise on aesthetics.

A shed large enough to accommodate their outdoor sporting equipment was important. Timber batten cladding with hidden shed access became a striking feature and a backdrop to the pool.

A second bathroom was also a priority. The limitations of a narrow side path shaped an ensuite extension. We brought the design inboard from the original external wall. It now extends the full length of the bedroom, maximising the ensuite footprint.

Maintaining a connection to the outdoors and fresh air was important to our clients. A large operable skylight became the perfect solution for natural lighting – now a standout feature of the primary bedroom.

Custom joinery throughout was integrated into the home’s coastal style. This has significantly increased storage capacity. It includes study joinery in the living space, which will become a perfect homework nook as the children grow.

Midway through construction, the scope was extended. This included the front garden, gates, and a low stone fence. It allowed us to create a cohesive design front and back, while elevating the home’s street presence.

Enclosing the front yard created an alternate outdoor space. The family now enjoy their home and feel connected to their community.
